This video-sharing website is the second most visited in France. In 2009, Dailymotion became a public company with stocks listed on Euronext Paris (ISIN: FR0004026879) and at that time had more than 100 million visitors per month. The site was primarily used by people living outside of the US as an alternative to YouTube.

In 2012, French media conglomerate Vivendi bought out the company for a reported $342 million and began its strategy of international expansion by opening an office in Los Angeles with plans to target other English-speaking countries that have large Francophone populations like Canada and South Africa. The site later became the sixth most visited website globally by July 2013. In 2015, the company launched a new version of its website with exclusive content that is only available to premium users.
