It is impossible to deny the excitement you feel as soon as you hear the word ‘vacation’! That is because getting to plan and execute an actual vacation to your favorite spot in reality is even more exciting. However, the planning part of your vacation tends to throw a wrench in that undeniable happiness as you trudge through the many details involved with leaving your town and spending time in a relaxing spot. This article is here to help you out with a tricky aspect of those trip details. Here are ten essential items to pack for your next vacation!

1. Sunscreen

Whether you are catching one of the cruises from Tampa or you are trekking in the Himalayas, you should definitely pack sunscreen of at least 30 SPF. You should also apply your sunscreen every day at least once. Remember to apply every forty five minutes or so if you are swimming or doing physical activity. Vacation is supposed to be fun and relaxing and nothing can ruin your vacay buzz like having to deal with a nasty sunburn. Throw an extra bottle in your bag just in case, because you can honestly never go wrong with extra sunscreen!

2. Chargers and Adapters

Maybe you are travelling abroad or will be somewhere with unfamiliar outlets. Do your research ahead of time and order the proper adapters for your different phone, computer and tablet chargers. This is an often forgotten detail and many people end up having to take time out of their fun plans to track down the right charger adapter so that their phone can continue to work for emergencies or just fun pictures. While you’re at it, don’t forget those chargers either! Make sure those are some of the first things you pack.

3. Headphones

Getting to your destination may take some time, especially if you are flying. Remedy your boredom by packing a pair of solid, noise cancelling headphones. That way you can listen to your favorite albums, a good book or even some podcasts! You will arrive at your destination more quickly than you thought and you may even find that you enjoyed the trip.

4. Medical Kit

This is a must, because you can never be too careful when you travel. Pack a small waterproof bag with your essentials and keep it close to you. Some good additions to a med kit include, but are not limited to, Benadryl, Advil, bandaids, and rubbing alcohol wipes.

5. Versatile Clothes

Weather can change fast in a lot of places, so try and pack versatile pieces. Some examples include a light windbreaker that is rain resistant, zip away pants and a long sleeve sun shirt.

6. Tennis Shoes

Yes, this is obvious, but no matter how cute your flimsy sandals are, you should give yourself a comfortable shoe option. Pack a nice pair of tennis shoes that you feel confident in wearing for long walks.

7. Waterproof Shoes

Rain may not come on your trip, but if it does, you will be prepared by bringing waterproof shoes!  This is especially a good idea if you are going somewhere with hiking, because not much is worse than hiking in wet socks.

8. Power Bars

Having that extra, small and easily packable snack in your purse or backpack is always a good idea. There are so many brands of energy bars out there now that you can test some ahead of time and buy a box of your favorite brand and flavor. You can throw a few in your day bag every morning, that way you never approach the hangry feeling that can ruin a fun day.

9. Extra Socks

Yes, pack those extra pairs of socks. You never know if you need them, but you will regret it if you do not bring them!

10. Bandana or Scarf (Or Both)

Did your shower go out randomly? Are you in need of a cute hairstyle or neck cover? Throw on your bandana or scarf and you are ready to go.

While you have to do most of the leg work logistically, at least you can rest assured knowing that you have packed everything you need.
