Planning for your wedding is an overwhelming experience—both in the number of emotions you’re feeling right now and in the number of tasks you have to do. One of the most important tasks you’ll have to take care of is choosing a wedding dress. But what about what goes underneath that dress? How much thought have you given to your wedding lingerie? If those garments completely slipped your mind in the hustle and bustle of other wedding planning, don’t worry: Here are some helpful tips for choosing the perfect wedding lingerie.

Consider Your Dress’s Cut

First and foremost, you should always consider the cut and style of your wedding dress when choosing your lingerie. Thankfully, there are many kinds of lingerie sets online to browse through to get a feel for what will work for your dress. If your gown is strapless, you obviously don’t want lingerie that has any kind of straps. Or, if your wedding dress has soft, clingy material, you’ll want to ensure that your lingerie won’t show through your dress.

Of course, if you’re really concerned about finding wedding lingerie that you can wear beneath your gown, you can always opt to put the lingerie on later! Don’t feel like you have to have it on for the entire ceremony and reception; you can “slip into something a little more comfortable” when the festivities are over.

Think about Your Garter

While this isn’t a necessity, you should also consider whether or not you want to have a lingerie set with a matching garter. Garters can obviously be bought separately, but many people like to uphold the tradition of having them match the other underclothes. As with any wedding tradition, that’s entirely up to you.

Keep Complexity in Mind

Your wedding day is going to be wonderful, joyful, beautiful—and exhausting. By the end of the night, the last thing you (and your new spouse) want to deal with is a long row of tiny buttons that are impossible to undo. Keep things simple for that first night, and consider something more exciting later on in the honeymoon.

Always Remember Comfort

Finally, you should always, always, always keep your own comfort in mind! Your wedding lingerie is as much for you as it is for your spouse. You should feel comfortable in it—especially if you have to wear it all day. If you want to keep your lingerie on under your wedding down, make sure you pick something that is soft, doesn’t pinch in any spots, and won’t restrict your movement too much. If you follow these tips, you’ll find the ideal lingerie for your wedding day and your first night as a married couple!
