Zippers are made available in various lengths. Even though the specific length of zippers is measured starting from one part to another part, there are actually some slight differences when it comes to the measurement method between all of the different kinds of zippers.

If you are looking for zippers by a specific length of choice that comes at cost-effective prices, you don’t have to search further because you can find them at https://www.zippershipper.com/zipper-chain-by-the-yard

Read on below to know the most commonly used ways to determine the right length of the zipper, whether it is a close ended zipper or an open ended zipper. Hopefully, these methods can help you identify the right length of zipper you should get for your project.

Just don’t forget to fully zip up the zipper first before you measure it no matter what type of zipper it might be.

Close Ended Zipper

For measuring the standard close-ended zipper, start by measuring from the upper part of the zipper slider down to the lower part of the bottom stop. This should be exclusive of the back head tape and forth head tape. You might end up with a shorter zipper when you incorrectly include either the back head tape or forth head tape.

Open-Ended Zipper

To measure a standard open-ended zipper, you can measure the length from the upper tip of the zipper slider down to the lower part of the open part that doesn’t include the fourth head tape. Mistakenly including the forth head tape will only give you a shorter tip.

Two Way Close Ended Zipper

The two-way close-ended zippers are categorized into X shape and O shape. These two types both include the double zipper sliders. Their primary difference is that the latter has 2 bottom stops with sliders installed in the head to head relation while the former has 2 top stops with sliders installed in the bottom to bottom relation.

The length of O shape standard two close-ended zippers is measured from the upper part of one bottom stop to tip of the second bottom stop without including the back head tape and forth head tape.

Meanwhile, the length of X shape standard two close-ended zippers is measured from the upper part of one zipper slider to the upper tip of the second zipper slider without including the back head tape and forth head tape.

Two Way Open Ended Zipper

The length of standard two way open-ended zippers is measured starting from the upper part of the zipper slider down to the lower tip of reinforcing tape to the bottom part of the open part without including the forth head tape.

Allowable Tolerance

All types of zippers will have natural tolerance because of different factors like the involved techniques, the machine’s operation speed, and the zipper chain’s tensility during the process of manufacturing. In general, the allowable tolerance has a direct proportion to the length of the zipper.
