In this blog post, we’re going to take a look at the contestants, their dishes and facts about Top Chef Season 10.
Wow, what a season! It’s been great to watch the contestants from all over the world showcase their cooking skills. Top Chef Season Ten: Contestants and Dishes
This year we had 16 contestants from all over the world. Some of my favourite dishes were Katsuji’s vegetable terrine to Jason M.’s excellent “chawanmushi.”In the first round of cooking challenges, contestants were tasked with making either a “charcuterie” or an egg dish.
Who were the judges?
The show was judged by:
Gail Simmons, a judge on Top Chef since season one
James Oseland, the Editor in Chief of Saveur magazine
Nathan Lyon, an expert on Asian cuisine and author of The Spice & Tea Exchange Cookbook.
What’s my favourite dish?
Although it’s hard to choose, I think that the best dish of the season was Erika’s salmon belly with gnocchi and trout roe.
For season ten of Top Chef, we have some new contestants vying for the title and a whole slew of exciting challenges.
The first cooking challenge was when they were tasked with making either an egg dish or “charcuterie.” The dishes which ensued ranged from a traditional Thai omelette dish to an egg-enriched quiche.
Throughout the season, we saw dishes ranging in global cuisine and difficulty levels; some contestants impressed with their own signature dishes while others found themselves coming up short of expectations.
The show was judged by: Gail Simmons, James Oseland (Editor-in-Chief of Saveur), Nina Shaw (Executive Editor at Food & Wine) and Richard Blais, the talented chef who won season four.
It’s hard to choose, but my favourite dish so far is Erika’s salmon belly with gnocchi and trout roe.
The winner of the top chef season was awarded a $125,000 cash prize.
Awards: The show has been nominated for a total of 19 Emmy Awards and won 16 times to date.
Winner Season Sixteen (2016): One Chef that stood out from all contestants is Christina Tosi who made it wins season 16 of the show.
Best Chef: The Emmys has nominated and awarded two chefs, one for best chef in a competition series which goes to Mario Batali (season 15) while Christina Tosi won for Best Reality Show Host.
The contestants were given an array of tasks from cooking dishes with ingredients that they may not have previously used.
The contestants were given a theme and challenge each week that they had to cook dishes for the judges based on what was assigned by the head judge of this season, Tom Colicchio.
This is my favourite show because I like cooking but it is also reality TV so you get really invested in all the characters as well!
